 Library sections are the functional divisions of a library that perform different tasks related to the library resources and services12.Some common library sections are12:

  • Acquisition Section: responsible for the selection and purchase of materials or resources.
  • Technical Section: responsible for the classification and cataloguing of resources.
  • Circulation Section: responsible for the lending and returning of resources.
  • Reference Section: responsible for providing reference and information services to the users.
  • Periodical Section: responsible for the collection and management of periodicals such as journals, magazines, newspapers, etc.
  • Bound Volume Section: responsible for the binding and preservation of old and damaged resources.
  • Reprographic Section: responsible for the photocopying and printing services.
  • Computer Section: responsible for the provision and maintenance of computers and internet access.
